2023 National Mentoring Month

January is National Mentoring Month and Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Wisconsin is celebrating in so many ways. We are using this month as an opportunity to thank those who support us and also hoping to inspire more adults to give the gift of a positive meaningful friendship to a young person. Check out all we have going on!

Refer a Friend Contest

Bigs! Refer a friend or family member to become a Big and be entered into a prize drawing! If you’re not a current Big but you get someone to apply, you too can win! Your referral must complete an application and the phone orientation, then you (the referrer) are entered to win the prize drawing. You have two chances to win. We have two Restaurant of your Choice prizes valued at $100 each up for grabs! We will get your info from your referral during our phone orientation.

The contest ends on January 31, 2023 and all phone orientations must be completed by Friday, February 17, 2023 as the prize drawing will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Details at-a-glance:

  2. They complete the phone orientation (Jill will contact them to schedule).

  3. They give your name, email, and phone number when asked, “How did you hear about us and what got you to apply?”

Zoom Info Sessions: Learn More about Becoming a Big

Register for a 20-minute Zoom Info Session and learn the basics about becoming a Big. Here is what most people ask us first:

  1. What is the time commitment, really?

  2. Do the kids want a mentor? Where do they come from?

  3. Why should I do this?

  4. What would I do with a kid that they think is fun?

  5. And any other questions you have….

There are 9 sessions in January. Register here so we can send you the Zoom Link: REGISTER

A Gratitude Award

We are honoring Menasha Joint School District for their support of mentoring. There are seven community based Bigs who are employed or retired from the school district. We are so appreciative that, after working with kids all day, they still feel compelled to make a meaningful friendship with a young person. The school district also houses two High School Bigs programs, one at Maplewood Middle and the other at Butte des Morts. Menasha High School students volunteer as Bigs for each of these programs. We are so thankful to the staff who help us coordinate and recruit students to be a part of the programs.

Menasha Joint School District creates a culture where they are committed to igniting potential in young people and that doesn’t end at 3:00 pm. We appreciate their dedication to our mission.

Join us at the Menasha School Board Meeting for the award presentation:
