JACKIE AND JENNIFER

“When I made the decision to become a Big in the program, I knew I was going to be helping a “Little”, but I had no idea what was in store. I met Jennifer when she was 6 years old. She was shy, but from our first meeting, I think we both knew there was no doubt this was a great match. As we grew in this relationship together, I found myself reconnecting with my inner child, and reliving things that I enjoyed. We became obsessed with shoe shopping, and loved to go to different stores and try them on, which is still strong connection with us today. “During our relationship, Jennifer also became a big sister herself, in a sense, to my son. They now have a relationship that I can’t put into words, but it warms my heart when they are together. “I watched Jennifer slowly emerge from a shy 6 year old, into a confident teenager, and now an empowered 21 year-old, who is a student at an out of state college, NEVER saw that decision coming. “Over the years, being there through every milestone of Jennifer’s life, made me realize that I gained more than a friend, I gained a family. I never would have imagined that a simple yes to mentoring, would lead into this lifelong friendship.” Big Sister – Jackie
“Being part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program is one of the greatest things that’s ever happened to me. I don’t think I’d be where I am now if it weren’t for Jackie” Little Sister – Jennifer
